1906 Rover - BS 8586

27 Aug 2016 10 4 1139
Another previously unpublished shot taken at Newby Hall back in 2013. Only first registered with the DVLA in 2012, so I'm guessing it was imported from overseas around that time. Amazing to think this car is now over 100 years old.

Roll Me Over ...

Taken at Beningbrough Hall, a large Georgian mansion which is near the village of Beningbrough, North Yorkshire. The building, now owned by the National Trust, is around 300 years old and overlooks the River Ouse. This rusted artwork was spotted on an old lawn roller leaning up against the outer wall of the main gardens. It was located within the centre of the handle no doubt to add strength as well as beauty. Sadly, time has taken its toll on the metalwork.

Primrose yellow and black little Austin was rather cute!

1921 Dodge Tourer - SV 5456

11 Feb 2015 3 910
This fabulous looking 1921 Dodge Tourer was imported from the USA to the UK in 1991, when it was fitted with a 2-litre Ford Pinto engine and gearbox for ease of maintenance and reliability. First time I can remember ever seeing one of these over here!

1928 Chrysler Series 65 - WW 7630

24 Jan 2015 1 2 794
Built in Detroit these replaced the earlier 62 Series and were available as a roadster, tourer, 2- and 4-door sedan, 5-window coupe, and a business coupe. This particular one is presumably a 21st Century import as it was only first registered here in 2001.

Loved the rustic authentic feel that this old timer had, but I hate to admit I'm not sure what it is. Can't read that plate in full to check the records and I can't put a name to that logo on the radiator!

I doubt if a more suggestive and striking mascot than the "Spirit of Ecstacy" has ever been produced. What I didn't realise though was that the original design was based on an actual person: Eleanor Velasco Thornton. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_of_Ecstasy

I really like these calormeters you often find sat atop the radiators on some old cars. Just a shame I forgot to make a note of which car it was on.

1924 Frazer Nash - PD 3616

19 Dec 2014 9 6 1272
Frazer Nash was a British sports car manufacturer and engineering company founded by Archibald Frazer-Nash in 1922. It produced sports cars incorporating a unique multi-chain transmission before the Second World War and also imported BMW cars to the UK. After the war it continued producing sports cars with conventional transmission until 1957. It also continued selling BMW cars and motorcycles and finally in 1956 became the official importer of Porsche cars. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frazer_Nash This was a possible entry for The Sunday Challenge a few weeks back when the theme was numbers . And no, despite it having my initials on the registration plate it isn't mine! Press z to view large for best effect.

One Man And His Dog!

So, this week's Sunday Challenge was ground level ... camera no more than a few inches of the ground or at least as low as you can get. And it didn't matter what you shot once you were down there, so I decided to use this photograph, which I took at Ripon Old Cars last weekend. Interestingly, I'd sought out this vantage point because of the trouble I have getting up and down taking shots in the main arena due to having dodgy knees caused by too much road running in my younger days. Anyway, enough about my ailments, for this show I decided to try and capture the majority of exhibitors as they were arriving. Having them come to me so to speak once I'd got into a low down position greatly reduced the amount of times I had to move. Not only did it save my knees somewhat, but it also got rid of another pain I have to contend with at shows when trying to get clean shots ... visitors! The exercise proved so successful that I actually had to switch back to shooting only JPEGs to keep going and even then I filled the card before I'd taken all the shots I would have liked to take. Thankfully though, not before I'd captured this Lomax 223, which for those that don't know is a hugely popular three-wheeled kit car. Both the driver and his passenger looked so happy to have their photo taken I decided this had to be the shot I'd submit for the challenge this week. They both made me smile and hopefully they'll have the same effect on you too!

1921 Ford Model T - BS 9559

04 Jun 2014 8 9 1276
Henry Ford famously said that customers could "have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black" ... fitting then I guess that this beauty was indeed finished in black. Interestingly though it was only registered in the UK in 2005.

Looking like something that rolled off the set of "The Waltons" ... yes, I know that shows my age!

Yet another detail shot, which I can't identify fully. Must admit I've tweaked this a little just to see how it would look and I'm fairly happy with the outcome.

Detail shot of an old, in fact a very old, mystery Ford.
