Thunderbirds Are Go ...

09 Nov 2016 28 20 1750
Just me messing again in the 'processing room' with another in my Artist At Work series of images ... the title of which is, as ever, somewhat tongue in cheek. For those that like to see these things you'll find a copy of the original photograph which I took of a Ginetta G33 in the Notes. Please view on black for best effect!

Rings Of Confusion ...

27 Sep 2015 21 41 2000
The theme for this week's Sunday Challenge was, believe it or not, hold your camera upside down . Now, I have to be honest here and say that right from the beginning, apart from worrying about dropping my camera, I couldn't really see the point of this exercise. Nor could I see how any images we would get would be any different to one taken with the camera the right way up and then flipped at the processing stage or see how you could tell looking at any particular image if it had been produced via the former or latter technique? However, I put on my big boy's pants, manned up (at least as best I could) and decided to go with it. It seemed to me that there were several ways you could approach the challenge. You could just take a 'normal' shot with the camera held the right way around and flip it in processing, but that would be cheating and everyone knows what happens to those Wendi finds doing that! You could take a 'real' upside down shot that would instantly look 'wrong' and play with the viewers sense of perspective and ultimately perhaps even make them question their sanity. Or, you could do what I've done here and take a photo whilst holding the camera upside down of something that is symmetrical and therefore looks pretty much the same as it would if you shot it the right way up. Not the most creative route to take perhaps, but I kind of liked the result and the way that it will no doubt lead some folks to question if I did in fact give into temptation and cheat. However, the more observant of you out there, particularly those who are into their cars or maybe just simply happen to own an Audi, will know this is the real McCoy. How? Surely, it's obvious. The black plastic curves that wrap around the chrome rings should be above them and not below. The red area is actually the leading edge of the bonnet and not part of the front valance or nose cone. Now you believe me ... don't you? You do, don't you?

2003 TVR T350C - T3 SOX

Same show, but much more a 'modern classic' if you like. The TVR T350C is a sports car that was manufactured by TVR from 2002 to 2006. It was based on the TVR Tamora, and powered by a 3.6 litre engine.

Monaro VXR - Details Unknown

Anothe detail shot from the Harewood House event back in 2011, this time it's the distinctive badge of a V8-powered Monaro VXR. For those that haven't come across the name before, VXR is a brand name used by Vauxhall in the UK for many of their high-performance trim models. Can't help but think of the ThunderCats though whenever I look at this logo!

2003 Noble M400 - M400 CUP

28 Apr 2014 5 4 1600
Noble Automotive Ltd., more commonly known simply as Noble, was established in 1999 by Lee Noble. Based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, they set about producing high-speed sports cars with a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout. Lee Noble was the chief designer and owner of Noble, but he went on to sell the company in August 2006 before resigning in February 2008. The M400 is the track variant of the Noble M12 and has been reported to do 0–60 mph in as little as 2.97 seconds. It's claimed that only 75 examples of this model were ever made. The rarity of it and the fact that this car was spotted at a show in West Yorkshire has led me to wonder if this could be Lee Noble's very own car ... how cool would that be!

VW Scirocco Mk3 - T200 ROC

As I've said, nice car, but is it really a Mk3 Scirocco?

I liked the juxtaposition of the Mk3 parked alongside Lily!

The business end of a fifth-generation Mustang ... up close and personal.

2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 - V11 PYR

22 Feb 2014 4 6 1264
Perhaps not quite what you expect to see at a classic car show, especially in the UK. Big, brash, bold (some may say ugly) and totally in your face it may be, but I liked it. The Dodge Ram SRT-10 was produced by Dodge in limited numbers. It was introduced in January 2002, but was not put into production until 2004. Unlike previous Ram trucks, the SRT-10 was built solely for the purpose of speed and thanks to its 8.3 litre Viper V10 engine it certainly can deliver.

2003 Toyota WiLL Cypha - MWE 610

13 Jan 2014 1 2 699
Spotted this odd little thing in the show car park. Turns out that the WiLL brand was a marketing approach shared from a small group of Japanese companies (including Toyota) who decided to offer products and services that focused on a younger demographic from August 1999 until July 2004 in Japan: essentially they were after the under-23-year-olds (especially women).

You'd need your shades on to look at that for any length of time! Also known as the Opel Speedster.

2009 Mazda 3 Sport - YH09 MBU

13 Dec 2013 500
A 'teasing' shot of my old Mazda 3 Sport, Ruby. She was the first car we'd owned from new and I really did like her. Sadly, I ended up selling her to finance the purchase of the white Mk2 Scirocco you'll find elsewhere in my photostream, which we call Lily. I'd not be without my Scirocco, but I do miss Ruby. In an ideal world I'd have kept her and also bought Lily, but we're not exactly well off so it was one or the other and the appeal of having an old Scirocco again won through.

2007 Mazda 3 MPS - YE07 WCR

12 Dec 2013 745
Saw this in Shipley, West Yorkshire around the time I was looking to buy a Mazda 3 myself. Sadly, I couldn't afford the MPS and had to settle for a 1.6 Sport model, but it was still a looker as you'll see when I get the photos sorted.
