1733 Scotopteryx mucronata (Lead Belle)
30 Aug 2014 |
|
Geometridae, Larentiinae - Wingspan: 30-38mm.
A very similar looking species to 1734 S. luridata, superficially looking the same. This species can be determined by the central forewing spots being equi-distant from the central bar edges, and the spots usually combining to look tear-shaped. The flight time is a little earlier than the July Belle, with the population peaking late May and June.
Although considered a more local species, the numbers recorded in Cornwall are much higher than the later species, with distribution being more to the west of the county.
