65 Eutropis multifasciata balinensis (Bali Skink)

27 Oct 2014 552
Many of these quite interesting lizards were around the hotel grounds. Apparently a specific species for this island, the "Bali Skink" has quite prominent yellow stripes down its sides.

69 Cave Racer (Elaphe taeniura ridleyi)

07 Sep 2013 264
Although it had patiently put up with us looking at it, presumably the flash from my camera was the last straw, and it decided to retire from the disturbance. In no hurry, it began wending its way carefully up the rock face to the roof area, where maybe it knew of a way out into the jungle above.

67 A Cave Resident

18 Jan 2014 269
As we entered the cave properly, we were fascinated to see many formations around, and particularly a large Stalagmite caught our attention (see the picture No 70 in this list). Whilst I was setting to take a picture, Pat swept the surrounding area with light and discovered what looked like a couple of snakes coiled up on a ledge behind us.

68 A 2.2m Cave Racer (Elaphe taeniura ridleyi)

18 Jan 2014 326
This wasn't a Python, after all, but a cave dwelling Rat Snake often called a Cave Racer. Generally a pallid white, it had a black and white head, and a striped black and white tail, which, when coiled up looked like it was two snakes. Although a bit suspicious of all the interest and lights, it stayed still whilst I took a photograph.

23 Common Toads In The Hole

18 Jan 2014 188
When going out for a late evening Jungle Walk, we would often see small groups of this Toad clustered in holes in the hotel lawns.

Another Amphibian common around the grounds.

Lots of these communal egg masses were present in the shrubbery, showing that the mating season was well under way when we arrived.

20 Polypedates leucomystax (Common Tree Frog)

18 Jan 2014 220
This little frog was everywhere around the grounds in the shrubs, particularly by the pools. However, with the heavy rains they could be seen anywhere.

Actually, they spent most of their time in the garden borders around the children's pool in the copious water from the heavy rains around the base of the plants.

18 Kaloula pulchra (Banded Bull-frog) in Grounds

18 Jan 2014 258
At our first Evening Meal, we queried the Staff about a deep sound which repeatedly sounded through the evening. It turned out to be this small frog which was around in numbers around the pools, taking advantage of the acoustics of the walls there. It is also known as a Chubby Frog.

21 Another Anolis Lizard

13 Oct 2013 207
Lizards are everywhere in the Caribbean, and there are numerous species throughout the islands. This common little one had taken an interest in Moths which were in my Keep Net from the previous night's trapping, but was perplexed that it couldn't find a way in for an easy lunch.
