Easter Seals Space Ranger Pin

"Easter Seals. Space Ranger."
A tin-lithograph tab button pin issued by the Easter Seals charity in the late 1950s. The satellite depicted on the pin looks similar to Vanguard 1 , which was launched by the United States in 1958. It's still orbiiting the earth today even though its solar-powered radio transmitter stopped working in 1964.

A membership card for the Order of Railroad Telegraphers (ORT). As Wikipedia explains, "telegraphers would be stationed in individual depots along the railroad line in order to receive train orders from a centrally located dispatcher and report back on train movements; telegraphed train orders would be written out on paper and 'handed up' to the crews of passing trains."
See also a 1915 version of the ORT membership card.

A unique combination of a business card on one side and an acquaintance card on the other.
For another two-sided example, see Acquaintance Compliments with Confidence and Respect , which has a name—like a calling card—on one side and the text of an acquaintance card on the other.
For more cards, see my album of Acquaintance Cards . For information regarding my book of detachable acquaintance cards, which was published recently by Clarkson Potter, see my Flickr profile page .

Let the Women Vote

With Hillary Clinton as a U.S. presidential candidate in 2016, it's incredible to think that not all women in the United States had the right to vote until the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified in 1920. This postcard was published by the Pennsylvania Woman's Christian Temperance Union around 1915.
Four Million Women Vote
Why Not the Women of Pennsylvania?
They are as intelligent as any in the world.
They are as interested in all that pertains to the welfare of the Home and the State.
They should be given the Right and it is their Duty to take part in the Government which is responsible for the Welfare of the People.
The state needs the help of the women.
Let the Women Vote.

Christmas Compliments from the Garbage Man, 1917

In days of yore, the paper boy , message delivery boy , milkman , coal man , and even the garbage man might give you their holiday greetings!
Compliments from the Garbage Man
Christmas comes and Christmas goes,
With summer rains and winter snows.
The garbage man who always goes,
Fighting mankind's every foe.
He's poor and humble and knows no wealth,
But is ever guarding the public health.
He works in cheer and knows no fear,
Of the deadly germ that is always near.
So don't forget him when Christmas comes,
To help him make his loved ones dear,
With just a little Christmas cheer.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, 1917-1918.
The Modern Cycle Co., General Repairing, St. Louis…

"The Modern Cycle Co., general repairing, brazing, vulcanizing. Wm. Deubel, proprietor. 1317 Montgomery St., rear. Allied Printing Trades Council, Union Label, St. Louis, 32. The Modern Way. The Old Way."
The Modern Cycle Company was a bicycle repair shop that may have been located in St. Louis, Missouri (that's where this business card was printed), but I haven't been able to uncover any additional information about the company or its proprietor, William Deubel.
In the illustration on the back of the card, the "modern way" and the "old way" both portray men who are working on bicycles, and the main difference between the two of them seems to be that the modern man is using a longer tire lever (or similar tool) on his bike. I'm not sure whether this was intended to show that the Modern Cycle Company used better tools, repaired bikes more efficiently, or something else.
