The Everitt Family, Easton, Pa., April 8, 1917

|
A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of piercing, unusual, or distinctive eyes (a photo featuring someone or something with expressive eye; the eyes can belong to people, animals, or face-like objects) .
Embossed at lower right: "Felker's Studio, Easton, Pa."
Handwritten name and date on the back of this real photo postcard: "Harry Johnson Everitt. April 8th, 1917."
With their frowns and staring eyes, this family doesn't appear to be enjoying their photo session. I'm not sure if Harry Johnson Everitt is the name of the father or the son.

A photo for the Vintage Photos Theme Park monthly topic of quirky humor (submit a photo on this topic each week in addition to—or instead of—a photo for the weekly topic).
I was saddened to learn that Barbara "Babs" Bird (aka corduroy cat), a former member of the Vintage Photos Theme Park, passed away on February 9, 2020. I always appreciated her quirky sense of humor. Although all of her comments disappeared when she left Ipernity a couple of years ago, I remember that she said that this was her favorite photo of mine.
--------
Lots of fun details here--pouts, grins, somber looks, closed eyes, big hats, wall hangings, patterned wallpaper, a mirror.
And then there's that kid in front who's yelling at the top of his lungs and ruining the picture: Aieeeeee!!!
The photo came in a nice paper frame , too:

Pete the Our Gang Dog, Steel Pier, Atlantic City,…

"Central Studios. 369P. With 'Pete,' Our Gang Dog, Steel Pier, Atlantic City."
Our Gang was "a series of American comedy short films about a group of poor neighborhood children and their adventures" that first appeared in movie theaters as early as the 1920s. The films were later released on television beginning in the 1950s under the original Our Gang name or as The Little Rascals .
Pete the Pup , also known as Pete the Dog With the Ring Around His Eye, was a fixture in the comedies, and he (or his successor, whose ring was painted on) posed with children for souvenir photos like this one at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in the 1930s.
The boy in this photo, who doesn't seem to be enjoying his time with Pete, is the same kid who's playing with his toys in Sonny, Bunny, and Dummy and A Pedal Car for Christmas .

I Dreamt I Was in a Trance

A downright macabre postcard for the Weird Vintage Postcards group.
--------
I dreamt I was in a trance, my folks thought me dead. They put me in a coffin; they cried and said nice things about me. All night long the old cat, whose kittens I had drowned that morning, sat on my coffin and gloated over my sufferings; she knew I was alive. I was placed in a hearse and in due time arrived at the grave yard. I could hear the mud hit the lid of the coffin and began to choke when I woke up.
Gates ajar. He has went? His chair is vacant.
--------
Printed on the back: "Bad Dream Series No. 1."
Postmarked twice on Oct. 17, 1910: Once at Middletown, Pa., 7 a.m., and a second time at Manchester, Pa., 9 a.m.
Addressed to: "Mrs. Katie May. Manchester, York Co., Pa."
Handwritten message: "Dear Sister, I wanted to write this [for a] long time but I had no time. We are having two weeks off at the shoe factory. Why didn't you come over? I was at the river. Answer. From Elva, your sis. R.F.D. No. 1."

Front and back of a small folded advertisement for Wier's Lemon Seltzer that also includes a chronology of the Spanish-American War, which took place in 1898 (the year "1899" above the "Historical Events in the Spanish-American War" heading is apparently either a typo or is intended to show when the ad was published).

The Procrastinator's Hereafter

"The Procrastinator's Hereafter. Take a friend's advice: Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today--Answer that letter." Sign: "Bottomless Pit Drop In."
Pity the poor procrastinator who doesn't answer his letters! This pathetic fellow obviously failed to keep up with his correspondence while he was alive, and now in the "hereafter" the devil is looking over his shoulder to make sure he responds on time--and for all time!
In order to avoid falling into the fiery "Bottomless Pit" below, the procrastinator is precariously perched on an endless roll of paper as he scribbles out his message. The last few lines he's written on the paper suggest that he's trying to explain away his current predicament: "...in my new home. Although everything is up to sample, I'm not stuck on the place but circumstances over which I have no control impel me to stick...."

Reverse of postcard:
Postmarked: "Hartford, Conn., Aug. 25, 1912."
Addressed to: "Mr. W. J. Ross, 131 River St., N. Adams, Mass."
Handwritten message: "Dear Will: What do you think of this for a card? I don't hear from Flora very often. I'm working and not having much fun either--just existing. Not as tired as when I came here. Hastily, Cora."
