After lunch at Vila Baleira, I and my wife decided to walk along the beach to Ponta da Calheta - about 9 km, almost 2 hours. Fortunately it wasn't too hot and we made it without a single bottle of water. Still we had to have fresh drinks in the end. This photo was taken about halfway between Vila Baleira and Ponta da Calheta (eastern Porto Santo coast).

We had to improvise to prevent the takeoff of the towels. This occurred near Porto Santo Hotel and SPA. The SPA provides treatments with warm local sand over the skin. That sand has bioclasts of red weeds, rich in calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, sulfur and strontium, which penetrate the skin after solved in the sweat generated by the appliance of warm sand. Those minerals have anti-inflammatory properties, reinforcing the bones' structure and the joints and improving the health of muscles. People from many countries, with rheumatism or problems on bones or muscles, seek Porto Santo to get such therapy, with successful results.

From this beach of southern Porto Santo Island, the imposing Cal Islet outstands on the background. "Cal" means "Lime" and the name of this 178 metres high islet was issued from its limestone mines.

On the northern coast of São Vicente Island, Cape Verde. The dark sand has a volcanic origin, which can also be noticed in the rugged coast, like the João d'Évora Point, on the background.

Sculptural set inspired on the grief of wives and mothers of fishermen lost in shipwrecks. It stands at the end of Republic Avenue, Matosinhos, where the sandy beach begins.
