WP2157 WPG - BALL ROOM. THE FORT GARRY

|
POSTCARD
Date: Posted August 12, 1929.
Publisher / Photographer: Novelty Manufacturing & Art Printing Co.
Notation: The card is identified on the reverse side by an imprint that reads; "Ball Room, The Fort Garry. The Grand Trunk Pacific Hotel, Winnipeg, Man.". A solid bar was later printed over "The Grand Trunk Pacific Hotel" - indicating that the postcard was likely produced prior to the 1920 absorption of the Grand Trunk Pacific by the CNR. This is one of several postcards produced in a similar unique style - each depicting one of the rooms in the hotel.
The note on the back is an interesting description of the [train] trip from Toronto to Winnipeg; "Dear Anna. this is the ball room of the hotel where we are staying. Just arrived this A.M. Some rain on the way but today is fine. We have only just entered the wheat lands a few miles back. 1207 miles from Toronto is mostly woods & brush, but many beautiful lakes."

WP2008 WPG - FORT GARRY GATE AND DOG TRAIN

|
POSTCARD
Date: Posted March 5, 1912 from St. Paul, MN to Stanley Allan McKay in Syracuse, NY
Publisher: W. I. Clubb, Winnipeg & Victoria #470
Notation: Colouring on Clubb cards is virtually identical to the unique colouring on EATON cards. Both publishers have similar unlcear image numbering on the front. The reverse sides are printed almost identically in green ink - Clubb has double dividing lines, EATON cards have single lines. No printer is identified on Clubb cards but C. S. Co. is recognized on EATON cards - likely they printed both?
Of particular interest in the image: Card is numbered on the front but very difficult to decipher. appears to be #A.83032.

POSTCARD
Date: Not evident. Unposted.
Publisher / Photographer: L. J. De Nobele, Winnipeg #37
Notation: I was quite pleased to find this card as it was previously unknown to me. It is part of what my friend Wintorbos and I have come to call the second series of De Nobele's postcard printings.
This postcard has been used as an advertising card for a business in Belgium. The full reverse side is printed with a promotional message from the P. Daenen-Peters store.

I like the visual appeal of this lithographed card - the image of the Fort Garry Gate, framed by depictions of the prairies, Rockies, Niagara Falls, and Parliament (Ottawa).
