Mariahilf church
16 Feb 2025 |
|
|
Immigrants from several counties - mostly catholic - began settling in what became known as the Mariaihilf district in the 1890s. The first church, school and teacherage burned down. A second church was also destroyed by fire. Undaunted, this chapel was built in the 1920s and has endured. The building and the adjacent cemetery are well maintained.

I have previously posted a photo of this house, but from a different perspective. I like the light of the rising sun on the stone and surrounding vegetation.

A close-up of a cactus flower in bloom in mid-June, at Buffalo Pound Lake, Saskatchewan. The cactus around the flower was quite large, so this is as close as I could get.
