Durham Cathedral is the largest and finest example of Norman architecture in Great Britain. Together with the Castle it was inscripted as a World Heritage site in 1986. whc.unesco.org/en/list/370 I had been looking forward to taking photos of the magnificent pillars and ribbed vaults but, alas, they are running a policy of absolutely no photography at all which is rigorously policed by volonteers. The reason cited is the sanctity of the church which on our visit was being disturbed by loud groups...
