According to the English Heritage listing , this wing of the school was built c.1920, but a more detailed history of the school says that the wing was added in 1911 (a date confirmed by www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=66716 ), with the clock added as a war memorial in 1919. The inclusion of the "1919" date, marking the year of the Versailles Treaty (rather than 1918, the year of the armistice), is interesting.

Erected in 1921, according to www.roll-of-honour.com/Cambridgeshire/CambridgeGasCompany... , which gives details of the men commemorated. A ball and cross have been lost from the top since the photograph on that page was taken in 2010. The design of the upper parts may perhaps have been inspired by Hobson's Conduit , although the top of the memorial is octagonal whereas the conduit head is hexagonal.

Conceived, designed and two-thirds paid for by the squire in 1919, according to the church guide, although similar (but pre-Great War) glass in the S. aisle is signed by T.F. Curtis and was made by Ward and Hughes. The biblical quotation below this panel, from Isaiah, XL, 1, was also used at the opening of Handel's Messiah : "Comfort ye, comfort ye, my people, saith your God; speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned". Like the next panel , this panel appears to be a preparation for the third window with its theme of peace.

The main image appears to show an irrigation scheme with, above, a YMCA hut - according to its website , the YMCA provided huts during World War I to give soldiers food and a place to rest on the front line. Whereas the first window largely dwells on violent and militaristic aspects of the war, the second seems more positive (in Christian terms) and dwells on attempts to relieve suffering or at least to provide Christian solace, in preparation for the third window with its theme of peace.
