Former garage and car showroom, by D. Clarke Hall, Scorer and Bright; the engineer was Hajnal Konyi. Became the library headquarters and now partly restaurants, partly empty. Scorer evidently specialized in roof structures of this type, and has his own Flickr group . Dated 1956 in The Buildings of England but evidently approaching completion only in the summer of 1959: www.flickr.com/photos/allhails/3038267504/ . An article on its construction, with photographs, appeared in Concrete Quarterly , Spring 1960. List description: list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1392689 . The multi-storey car park behind is a later design by Sam Scorer, dating from 1973-4 [thanks to alexbancroft for pointing this out - see comment below].
