85mm

Nikkor-H 85mm f/1.8 lens from c1971. Nikon stopped making this lens when they introduced the AI standard in 1977 and substituted a smaller f/2 model. It was not as highly regarded as the old model and in the fullness of time the original was resurrected in AF form in 1987. Coincidentally the AF version was the one I used to photograph the old timer above.

Transport in Rural Areas

The Domesday Book of 1068 recorded a settlement of 22 households at Langefel, tenanted by Borel. 'Langley' derives from 'long lea' i.e. 'long meadow'. There is considerable variation in road direction signposts. These look cheap. The Great Western Railway runs on the embankment in the distance. Nikon D2Xs with an 85mm f/1.8 AF-D lens (comparable to 127mm in full frame). 100 ISO; f/8; 1/80th.

St. Giles's Church, Tytherton Kellaways

I was pleased to see that the cupola on St. Giles's Church had been returned following repair and renovation. Even more satisfying from a photographer's point of view was that it stood out so well against the stormy sky. My several earlier visits have often coincided with washed-out white skies making it hard to highlight the intricacy and beauty of the cupola. I salute the local people who contributed towards its restoration. Nikon D2Xs with an 85mm f/1.8 AF-D lens (comparable to 127mm in full frame). 100 ISO; f/8; 1/250th.

The rates models charge for their services, and the fees of the photographic studios, force me to recruit personal friends for occasional figure and portrait work. Nikon D2Xs.
