The original copies of the White Album LP included a poster on which the words of the songs were printed, and four photographs which John Kelly took during 1968. The cover was distinguished by the embossed words ‘The Beatles’ and a unique serial number. However, the numbering system was abandoned in 1971, and after 1975 the raised lettering was replaced by grey toned conventional printing. I guess the freebies inside were stopped around the same time.
I don't know what camera, lens, and lighting John Kelly used in 1968, but it's clear he was a master of his art. However, viewers may be admiring the detail of the briefcase and wondering what set-up was used to record it so faithfully. So: Nikon D2Xs at 400 ISO. AF-Nikkor 35-70 f/2.8 lens at 48mm. f/4.8 and 1/90th of a second.

I did not like the inconsistencies at first (such as where distinguishing initials took their place) but later I heard the rhythm in this short and otherwise boring account. There is a poem in there trying to get out.

I used the venerable Canon EF 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 lens from the early days of the EOS cameras. It is a push-pull design with the same optical formula as the old FD lens of the same designation.
Burley Aftershave

Launched around 1968, Burley After-Shave was on sale for about four years. It was advertised with the slogan, 'Burley won't make a man out of you - but it will make the man in you smell better.’
A man called 'Nico1970' provides a helpful review of this scent on the internet - theshavingroom.co.uk/community/index.php?threads/old-spice-burley.34256
He remarks, 'This is full fat stuff; like Tabac OD'd on fags, booze and women. It is a hedonistic assault on the senses - it is simply unreal. Where Tabac is sweet, Burley has no such niceties to take the edge off the billiard room smoke. This is the real deal and no mistake - none of your 'watered down' coke zero here.’
Photographed using a Nikon D700 and an AF Nikkor 35-70mm f/2.8 lens.

I have taken a liberty by making a double exposure of an image made by John Hedgecoe for the cover of an issue of 'Queen' magazine, circa 1968, which was reproduced in "Photographs '69 - The International Annual of Advertising Photography".
I used a Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro + an AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 G DX lens for this picture.

This appeared in 'Nova' magazine of September, 1969. It is a still from Claude Chabrol's film 'Les Biches' of 1968. The actors in the photograph are Jacqueline Sassard and Stephanie Audran. I've never seen the film, and I don't know one actor from the other. Feel free to add detail and opinion. It's all very French and avant-garde.

Once this was news, glanced at, ignored. Now, it's a long time ago. We don't know those people. They died unnamed and unlamented by newspaper readers in England who were keener to learn the page on which the television programmes appeared. Google reveals nothing about this tragedy: it predates the internet and its pervasive grip. It was in the 'Daily Express' of Tuesday, April 30th, 1968. Photographed with a Nikon D700 and a 55mm f/3.5 Micro-Nikkor AI lens. A little bit of pathos in red ink on discoloured newsprint.
