This is the souvenir paperweight from the Czech glass factory that you send to a family member who you don't actually like. :D From Quick Complete Meals For Summer.

...And apart from a big, stomping, quivery tomato ring, nothing says "Love! Love! Love!" like cranberry gelatine hearts. (Originally posted to flickr on February 3rd, 2011.)

Following the "Stuffings" chapter comes "Salads and Salad Dressings." I've noticed the wedge-style salad has made a real comeback in my town over the past few years. I think it's because you need both a knife and fork to cut into it, which improves the macho factor even for things which aren't meat.

I was too lazy to plant any eggplant last year. I really regretted it, but this year will be different.

Re-posted to give a more accurate size. Otherwise you can't appreciate the glorious anarchy of all this greenstuff. Look at it-- rolling everywhere, without an atom of mayo or gelatine to be seen for miles! [fans self] From the July issue of Family Circle magazine.

Top left: Spiced Pickle Jelly Salad. (Whoo-hoo!) Some other unillustrated goodness I had to leave out of the scans: Broiled Tomatoes With Asparagus Tips, Stuffed Orange And Creme De Menthe Pear Salad, Spaghetti In Pimento Cups, Mushrooms In Ramekins, Noodle Ring Filled WIth Chicken And Mushrooms, Sandwich [aka American, I presume] Cheese And Corn, Jellied Fruit Salad With Frozen Mayonnaise... You've probably guessed by now that seasoning is a scarce commodity throughout this booklet, unless by "seasoning" you mean mayo and the liquid from the red [aka Maraschino, I presume] cherry jar.

Kraft Dressing Ad, 1953

Do take these lovely, flavorful greens and sink them deep in a sea of mega-sweetened bland neon goo from a bottle! What could be better?! (Okay. I actually do sometimes crave crappy "French" dressing from a bottle. But only on hunks of iceberg lettuce and maybe a few cement-like boxed croutons. What else would you do with iceberg lettuce, anyway?)
