I forgot to save whatever link I once used to pinpoint the year. Darn.

She's got a Meridel Le Sueur book of short stories hidden inside that cookbook. The family will never know. Front cover of a 16-page promotional published by the Malleable Iron Range Company, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Slightly enlarged to show detail. Originally posted to flickr on May 6th, 2011.

Some clippings from inside the booklet. The menus and recipes are all the usual stuff, (lots of fluffy whitish cakes and various meat-starch fusions jammed into ring molds) but the line drawings are pretty cool.

My copy does have a few hand-written recipes added, including one for "Rushan Beef Balls," otherwise known to old-timey U.S. cooks as "porcupine meatballs."

I love the domino arrangement of dessert mix boxes. Imagine if this were a detail of some giant image featuring thousands of pies, and winding rows of carefully arranged boxes just waiting to be tipped over en masse. Front and back covers of a 26-page promo booklet published by Good Luck Foods, Inc., Rochester, New York.

Does anyone still pass out recipes for grapefruit pudding? I'm kind of afraid to look and see.

Welcome to the magical parallel universe where nothing extraneous ever lands on the kitchen surfaces (or your apron) while you're cooking. I bet the dishes all wash themselves, too.

(L) The chocolate-pear combo is definitely still in vogue. I've seen it in a couple of fancy pastry shops. (R) "Peppermint Patty" is both the candy AND the vanilla-flavored tart with the candy dropped into it! Trippy!

(Lower Left) Maybe I'm being churlish, but I'm pretty sure that pudding when you freeze it is still pudding, not ice cream. [shrug] Nice cake decorations, though.
