(I like to think that ad size = priority. Home-cooked breakfasts rule, but don't forget to feed the cat. Later, we can have some cake and cider. As for the chores? Forget 'em 'til tomorrow!)

The "Chinese Lantern" jar is adorable, but... wow. I bet it led to a lot of spills.

The combo planter-aquarium-hurdy-gurdy prize is sorta' cool. I bet you had to sell about ten thousand "flash" brushes before you could win one, though.

Dear Nineteen-Fifties,
Please calm down. There really is such a thing as being too excited about Laundry Day. Also, pompoms on an apron? C'mon.
Sincerely,

I wasted a lot of time putting this one together, because my mind was boggled by the saga of "Baby X: Marmalade Junkie." Not to mention wondering what the Incredible Mystery Substance in Fox Beer's World Famous Water might be. (Cheese curds? Uranium fragments?)

This was the first of the Pauper cookbooks I ever bought, out of a one dollar slush pile in a now defunct warehouse-sized used book emporium. Fifteen or so years later, I'm still not sure if these recipes were really meant to be taken seriously. (For example, I feel bad for the at-home cook who had to figure out the specifics of a direction like "Bake in two layers...") On the other hand, I always wished for somebody to animate McCrea's fabulous drawings. And I still do.
Other recipes: Stuffed Peppers "Ricci", Shrimp Creole, Saltimbocca Florentine, Squabs In Madeira, Shrimp Soup, Turkish Shish Kabob, Tetrazzini of Oysters, Tarragon Chicken, Veal Scaloppine, Veal Scaloppine With Mushrooms (?), Viennese Malakoff Pudding, White Mountain (candied chestnuts with brandy and heavy cream), and Zabaglione.

Note the figure, the dress, the lack of any view that might reveal legs. "Mama O" is clearly related to that mermaid who pitches canned fish.

Remember that time when the babysitter forgot her glasses and confused this jar with the Ovaltine jar? Well, we can look back now and laugh, right?
