I opened this magazine-sized, 20-page promo hoping to see a bread fairy. You know, a peppy, aproned sprite with a magic wand, who'd reward hungry but virtuous mortals by turning various inanimate objects into sandwiches. It didn't happen, sadly. Franz Bakery, promoted on the back cover, is still with us. (Originally posted to flickr on February 7th, 2011.)

My Photoshop skills are pretty limited, but I went ahead and ran these bigger than they were in the booklet. Just because I love 'em so much. (Clicking on the image itself and then the largest "View All Sizes" option will give you a little more detail.)

"That delightful custom of serving appetizers with the cocktail-- canapes of spicy allurement and hors d'oeuvres in tempting ensembles of the world's finest delicacies-- will add piquancy to the pre-dinner cocktail and a delicious attribute to the buffet supper..." The toast-your-own-canapes-at-the-table arrangement is adorable.

"...the art of dining, of entertaining and of old time hospitality-- preceded and accompanied by genuine, matured liquors..." And buttered toast. Lots and lots of buttered toast.

Which came first: Bland or Salty? From Family Circle magazine.

"Many gatherings start with drinks and snacks and go right into the roast or casserole, continue with a salad and end with dessert and coffee..." Who else has had the "Magic Fish" vision after one too many aperitifs? Okay, fine. It's just me. :o
