Canada Dry Club Soda/Water Ad, 1948

So many questions! Such as: would Cezanne himself have enjoyed depicting these party-goers? Why is it *Water* on the label, but *Club Soda* in the text? Finally, do I park this picture in the album of soft drinks or the album of booze? From the October issue of Better Homes & Gardens magazine.

An entire tablespoon of chili powder to serve-- six people! Madness! Thank Heaven that we have plenty of frozen vanillin and cool, sparkling sugar water on hand to keep the whole family from certain doom! Clipped from the July issue of Everywoman's magazine.

This image depicts just how much booze the average American put away at an office party-- if they didn't want everyone else to think they were weird. From a December Saturday Evening Post.

Your pizza should always be underbaked, then buried beneath six gallons of briny canned goodness! All the cool kids are doing it! Front and back sections of a promotional fold-out published in 1959 by the Seven-Up Co., St. Louis, Missouri. (Shortly thereafter, it was deleted from this plane of existence by Walter Lantz and his army of lawyers.)

Some clippings from inside. Pity the poor grapefruit. So important, and yet so ignored come picture time.

It's great mixed with booze, but it's a child-safe patent medicine, too!

Guessing a date here wasn't easy. Squirt was created in 1938, and the ubiquitous kid mascot, ("L'il Squirt") doesn't appear until 1941. All this according to the drink's current producer, which adds that it became established as a mixer in the Fifties. However, these graphics look more Forties than Fifties to me, so there you are. Front and middle section of an eight-section foldout. (There was a cut up top that allowed it to sit atop the soda bottle with the arrow pointing down to the label.)

The chocolate-ginger combo is probably in vogue again. I still don't think I'm ready. But pineapple-ginger? Yeah! Originally posted to flickr on 4/15/11.

As a kid in the Northeastern U.S., I remember so many other soda brands: Hoffman's, White Rock, Cel-Ray... Most of these are long gone, but we'll always have The Great White North! :D Front and back of a fold-out published by Canada Dry Ginger Ale, Inc., New York, NY. Frito Salmon and Carrot Salad! Fritos also go great with asparagus, "mock chicken" (roast veal or pork) and watercress-cream cheese sandwiches! 9 out of 10 picnic-crashing bears agree that Mom's Fritos fixation is starting to become just a wee bit disturbing.

The illustrator couldn't decide whether they wanted to do a line drawing or a woodcut, so they tried to split the difference. :/
