Why do people go on as if the Fifties were some kind of fantastic Golden Age for the "larger woman"? Okay, so nobody expected her to spend twenty hours a week at the gym while playing wife, Mom, and wage slave (and perpetually dieting, of course). But you know that underneath that cute little outfit, she's still squeezed tight as a drum in some fugly girdle. Even if she's yet to reach the ancient age of thirty.
