There's also recipes for Root Beer and Lemon Pop in the Dessert breads chapter. No, I don't know why, but it's still awesome that they were there. You could apparently get 20 quarts of root beer from 1/2 cake of yeast. Woo!

These pages appeared only in '41 & '42.
Apparently (L) bread DID turn out to be fattening (who knew?), plus (R) America wasn't yet ready for ethnic oddities like the "Bagle" after all. :(

"Daddy, why is Mommy holding that cake of yeast to her ear like she's listening to it?"
"Never mind, Susie. We'll just go sit in the living room with our soft drinks until she's done."

(L) This page appears only in some of my copies, for whatever reason.
(R) "...But there are times when women like to run up a batch of rolls of their own, or try their hand at a coffee cake, just to see if they can still do it!"

A promotional booklet published by Standard Brands, Inc., makers of Fleischmann's Dry Yeast.
I've had multiple additions of this thing lying around the house for years. Only when I laid it out for scanning did I notice the "mirror imagery" on the covers.

Here are the last couple of pages (leaving out the index) from the '41 and a '42 addition. (L) Personally, I have my doubts that there's anything "pleasant" about drinking mashed up yeast in watered down tomato juice. Except for maybe the quart of water you'd need to rinse with afterward.

The griddle doesn't look like much, but the pitcher is so shiny that you can see clear into another dimension!

When you can't decide between fries and donuts, just go with both. So long as you don't confuse the salt shaker with the sugar bowl, it's all good.

Doctor, lately the words "Fluffy muffins! Fluffy muffins!" keep going around and around in my head. Can you help me?

I don't think this tune really compares to Pete's original, but hopefully he made lots of dough off it. ;)
