Cologne - Elisabeth-Treskow-Platz

Cologne is the fourth-largest city in Germany - and one of the oldest. A Germanic tribe, the Ubii, had a settlement here, this was named by the Romans "Oppidum Ubiorum". In 50 AD, the Romans founded "Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium", the city then became the provincial capital of "Germania Inferior".
The Elisabeth-Treskow-Platz is in the center of the new and posh Rheinauhafen, surrounded by cafes and restaurants.
The building seen here is named "Rheinbastion". It was built 1882-1891 directly on the embankment of the Rhine to defend the harbour and city of Cologne. From 1939 the water police had offices here. After WWII the bastion got two additional levels and a new roof. The main entrance is on the first floor, what means it can be used during floodings.
Meanwhile a Creperie is in the groundfloor.
