Loit is located a few kilometers from Süderbrarup (there the church was closed) in an area that was heavily fought over during the migration period in the 4th century. Already at the end of the 19th century, excavations began in the Thorsberg moor ("Thorsberg moor"), during which weapons were also found. There may have been a sacrificial site of the Germanic war god Thor. About 2000 urns from the period up to 400 AD were excavated nearby. Scholars suppose that the warlike conflicts were significant in the context of the emigration of most of the Angles to Britain.
The small Romanesque church in Loit was built in the 12th century from fieldstones. The wooden tower ("bell stack") is from 1762. The original apse was demolished in 1834, when it became dilapidated.
