Saint-Émilion

02 Jul 2013 157
Saint-Émilion is a wonderful town, full of historical stories and monuments. Existing already in Roman times with a rich medieval history. There is even "hermitage", where in the 8th century Émilian lived, a monk after whom the town is named, a large medieval underground church, cloisters ... For most people "Saint-Émilion" stands for the best and most expensive French red wines. This makes Saint-Émilion to one of the capitals of wine. So the town is a major tourist spot in France. During the summer months it is really crowded here. Wealthy winos of the world seem to gather here, well actually not the winos, the connoisseurs only. I stayed for while - and moved on to the small, quiet villages on the countryside.
