I like to swim in the rivers, but swimming in the Tarn is not easy, as it is very shallow in summer times. But near Les Détroits the river has formed some pools, that are small but really deep. Perfect to jump in in the early morning, before the sun has reached the bottom of the gorge - and no canoe is in sight.

There are many different "cuisines" in France. In Les Détroits life is simple - and food too. But it was not bad, the wine was cool and we could sit outside until nightfall.

We had met a couple that was very experienced in astronomy and looked for a very dark place. So together we booked rooms in "Les Détroits", a kind of simple B+B place in the gorge, with no village around. After we arrived they spotted this vulture.

Down in the gorge, the sporty tourists find their way down. Sometimes the canoes got stuck in the shallow areas.

La Malène is a small village down in the Gorges du Tarn. Over the summer months, it is a very busy place, as many tourists start their canoeing adventures here.

Not only the "Grand Canyon" in Arizona has a "Point Sublime". The "Gorges du Tarn" has a one as well. Other than in the US, here is a nice little, well-heated snackbar, that offers great "café au lait" in large cups. Merci beaucoup!

For most tourists here swimming or canoeing through the canyon probably offers just enough thrill. Adrenaline-junkies step on the iron passerelle on the cliff - and jump down. 107 meters of free fall. Secured by a bungee rope. It takes about twenty minutes to climb up - and a scream and some seconds to be down again. www.le107.com/en/#
