Scourie is a small village on the north-west coast of Scotland. Until the 19th century, the Clan Mackay was the dominant family in the area, and one branch of the family owned Scourie itself. Scourie Beach is a place, where tourists can enjoy bird watching huts and are given information about the local animals and the surrounding area.

Tongue – Castle Varrich

Where the ruins of the castle now stand, overlooking the Kyle of Tongue, was the site of an 11th century Viking fortification. The castle was the ancient seat of the chief of the Clan Mackay, who may have built it in the 14th century, after the clan was expelled from its ancestral province of Moray to the county of Sutherland. The weather can change here very fast.
