The site has probably been used since early Christian times. This is indicated by cross finds dating back to the 5th to 6th century. There may even have been a monastery complex on this site. Further finds date from the 8th to 12th centuries. Later, the parish church of the surrounding parish was located here. Today's Kirkmadrine Church was built in the late 19th century. In honour of the long church history on this site, the church was designed in the Romanesque style.
