The church of Cruggleton is hidden in a mysterious grove, surrounded and protected by a high wall. The building was erected in the second quarter of the 12th century. In 1424, the church was placed under the control of Whithorn Priory. After being in a ruinous state for a long time, it was John Crichton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Bute, who had the church rebuilt in the 1890s. Other creatures that are said to live in the grove and around the church are fairies. The church was locked, perhaps the fairies live inside and did not want to be disturbed.
