The Butrint Lagoon (also known as Lake Butrint) encloses the peninsula on which the now destroyed town of Butrint has stood for almost 3000 years. It is a salt lagoon that is connected to the Ionian Sea via the approximately two and a half kilometer long Vivar Canal (seen here).
