The dolmen is a megalithic monument known as a passage tomb. It is located north-west of Mérida. It was erected in the late Neolithic period towards the end of the 4th millennium BC or at the beginning of the 3rd millennium BC. The dolmen was originally covered by a burial mound with a diameter of 20 to 25 metres and a height of 8 to 10 metres made of stones and earth, of which virtually nothing remains. The actual grave consists of hewn and smoothed stones and is made up of a roughly circular chamber and a passage that is almost 15 metres long but only around 1.50 metres high.
