The church stands in the plain of Campovalano, which today belongs to Campli. The construction dates back to the 8th century and was part of an old Benedictine monastery, that is ruined. The church was extensively restored in the 12th-13th centuries by the Premonstratensian monks. It was locked, like most small churches around.
