San Ginesio - Traktor

The Abbazia di Santa Maria delle Macchie may have existed already in the 10th century. The monks reused the building material from the nearby Roman city of Urbs Salvia. The crypt was built in the 12th century, a document from 1171 mentions the place. In 1252 it was acquired by the community of San Ginesio. Since 1500 it was privately owned. With the earthquakes in central Italy in 2016 and 2017, the abbey is unusable and so I could not see the crypt (seven naves). While I was unable to visit the crypt, I did find this beautiful old tractor on the grounds.
