This church once belonged to a convent dependent on the abbey in Charroux (350kms east), later on the nearby abbey in Saint Jean d'Angely. It was erected within the 12th century, but tower, southern walls and parts of the nave got destroyed during the medieval wars. It got rebuilt and reconstructed different times. The state the building is in now, dates to the mid of the 19th century. Here is one of the sculpted capitals. A fighting scene.

The Monasterio de San Pedro el Viejo ("Saint Peter the Old") is a former Benedictine monastery built within the 12th century. A church had existed here (built on the place of a Roman temple) since Visigothic times and even, when the Moors hold Huesca, this church was in use. Christian troops conquered Huesca in 1096 and from 1117 on Benedictines with obvious ties to Cluny reconstructed the church and erected a monasterio here. Of course the Benedictian monastery needed a decent cloister. This got erected adjoining the church around 1140. Many of the capitals, carved in the style of the "Master of Agüero" (aka "Master of San Juan de la Peña"), are creations done during the renovation of San Pedro el Viejo end of the 19th century. This capital is one of the old (original) ones. Two men fighting mythical, evil dragons with bare hands. Even as the face of the right fighter ios weathered away, the style of the "Master of Agüero" is visible.

The parish church Saint-Sulpice in the village of Marignac was erected within the 12th century as part of a priory, founded here by the Charroux Abbey (120kms southeast). The church has a remarkable cloverleaf layout. The eastern part, seen here and the portal are still dating back to the first church here, while the outer walls of the nave have been rebuilt, after destruction by war. All around the eastern "cloverleaf" are carved corbels, pillar and capitals. For a while I saw here a hugging couple. But this is a serious fight. Note the very unfair kick "below the belt".
