The construction of this church was started in 1938 by the German parishioners who lived in Heimtal. During WWII, the Germans were forced to retreat. During the Soviet occupation of Estonia, the building was used as a potato store and a chicken coop. In 1993, the church was handed over to the nearby community of Urvaste and renovated with the support of the descendants of the former German settlers around 1998.
