The Palma de Mallorca Airport, one of the busiest in Spain, is used by about 30 million tourists per year. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the island was invaded by the Vandals in 425. Until 903, the island was part of the Umayyad Caliphate. From Between 902 and 1229 the island was under Islamic control. James I of Aragon ( aka "Jaume el Conqueridor") conquered Mallorca in December 1229. Pollença, located in the north of the Serra de Tramuntana, existed as a settlement already in Roman times. At the beginning of the 20th-century artists arrived here and settled, what attracted more artists to visit Pollença. Meanwhile, there is a yearly "Competition of Plastic Arts" and since 1975 a museum, where the works which won that competition are exhibited. Santa Maria dels Àngels was founded by the Knights Templar, but most of the current building was built between 1714 and 1790. The facade is simple, a rose window is integrated into the south gable above the portal.
