There is an inscription telling that they were created in Constantinople in 1076 on commission from a noble family from Amalfi, who donated it to the Sanctuary.

The bell tower is part of the complex, it is known as the "Angevin Tower" as it was financed by the Angevin House of Anjou after their troops had conquered Southern Italy and so ending the time of the Normans.
