End of the 7th century Ansoald, Bishop of Poitiers, mentions the monastery as being not inhabited. He then had it restored and gave it to an Irish monk named Romain and his companions. Later it was made a priory dependent to the Abbaye Saint-Junien in Nouaillé-Maupertuis. The single-nave church was constructed in the 12th century and still has the Romanesque facade.
