Castelfranc, set between the Lot and the tributary Vert, was founded at the end of the 12th century by the bishops of Cahors as a bastide. The church was probably built in the middle of the 13th century. The western side got fortified. The rose window above the portal was probably not created earlier than 1280 to 1290, as the pattern corresponds to that of the cathedral of Cahors. While the apse originated from the same construction activity, the nave was almost completely rebuilt in the 19th century. Like in all bastides, the church is located on the corner of the central square.
