A first chapel was mentioned in Sassenhausen in 1585. Following the inscription over the present Protestant chapel´s door, the building was built by the carpenter Mannus Ritessel in 1703. The building is a "school chapel". School and church were united under one roof, as a part of the interior was separated by a wall and the resulting space served as a school room.

Looks like the kids in Sassenhausen, a small village that is now part of Bad Berleburg, still love the oldfashioned bubble gum. But obviously "Heavy Metal Fingerrings" for 1 Euro are the "must haves" here.

Raumland is since 1975 part of Bad Berleburg. It is mentioned already around 800. The church of Raumland was dedicated to St. Martin, what could be a trace of Franconian origin. Probably founded by early missionaries, local traditions connect it to St. Boniface. In the 9th century it was the first parish in the area. The late Romanesque hall church of today was built in the middle of the 13th century. Recent excavations proved, that it is probably the third church on this spot. During renovations the 1980s these frescoes were discovered under the plaster. They are dated to the second half of the 15th century.
