Cologne - Café Central

Cologne is the fourth-largest city in Germany - and one of the oldest. A Germanic tribe, the Ubii, had a settlement here, this was named by the Romans "Oppidum Ubiorum". In 50 AD, the Romans founded "Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium", the city then became the provincial capital of "Germania Inferior". It is claimed, that German artist Martin Kippenberger and friends met in the 1980s and 1990s in the Café Central and in the neighbouring hotel Chelsea. Today the "Neue Wilde" ("Young Wild Ones"), "neo-expressive" artists of the 1880s, seem to have moved away. At noontime this a a nice and very quiet place. Some palmtrees adorn the terrace.
