Detmold was the capital of the Principality of Lippe from 1468 until 1918 and then capital of the Free State of Lippe until 1947, when Lippe was incorporated into the new German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Only the martial statue on top of the original was changed - and it was smaller. The original reaches about 53 meters, the cardboard version "only" reached aboiut 20 meters.
