Kirchlengern - Stift Quernheim

A convent of Augustinian nuns was founded here around 1147. The Romanesque church, erected within the 12th century, got strongly altered and enlarged within the 15th and 16th century. After the reformation the nunnery was converted into into secular convent to maintain unmarried or widowed noble women. This "stift" existed upto 1810. The gargoyle (two faces!) probably dates back to the 12th century church.
