Montbron - Saint-Maurice

What is now a parish church, was part of a priory founded in the 11th century and dependend on the Abbey of Cluny. In 1577 the priory was largely destroyed, when the city of Montbron was sacked during the Wars of Religion. What is seen today is the result of a very questionable reconstruction undertaken by architect Edouard Warin, a follower of Paul Abadie. Very most of what you see from this pov - was "recreated" end of the 19th century.
