Villaputzu - San Nicola di Quirra

03 May 2016 2 213
Situated about 15km north of Villaputzu near the ruins of a medieval castle "San Nicola di Quirra" is one of only two Romanesque churches on the island, that were erected entirely of bricks. The small single nave church was built within the second half of the 12th century. The bricks were produced "in situ", the remains of the clay pit and the kiln have been found.

East of Cagliari the road follows the coastline to Villasimius, where I stayed for a day. I had time to visit the sandy beaches, sip cappuccinos, tan and watch the waves.
