Nice - Promenade des Anglais

31 Mar 2011 203
When the first english tourists came to Nice, they enjoyed the nice panorama along the coast, but the pebble beach was not easy to walk for the victorian ladies and gentlemen. So the "Promenade des Anglais" was built. Meanwhile it is still a promenade, used by tourists (and inline-scaters), but as well a four-lane highway, so it can be pretty noisy. Even in a late afternoon in December the coast makes clear, why it was named "Côte d’Azur" by french poet Stéphen Liégeard in 1887. The English call it "French Riviera" since early times.
