Valbonne - Sainte-Blaise
11 Dec 2019 |
|
St. Blaise was erected within the 13th century as the church of the former "Abbaye de Valbonne" = vallis bona), founded in 1199 by monks of the Chalaisian Order, that was flourishing in Southern France at that time. From 1285 on the abbey belonged to the Benedictine order. It got dissolved in 1788. The parish of the village that had grown around the monastery from the 16th century on uses the church since then.
The Romanesque architecture is simple and sober as the Chalaisian Order had a similar appoach to art as the Cistercians.

Saint-Paul de Vence - Maritime Alps

On the way to Vence the bus stopped in St. Paul and I had a nice view over the autumnly valley up to the white Maritime Alps behind. Turning right I could see the blue Mediterranian sea. From Denis´ photos,
I had the impression that the opening hours of the "Chapelle du Rosaire" I wanted to visit in Vence, were a bit unusual. So I was here very early that day.
