This baptistery had been built on the plan of a "triconchos", it had three apses in clover-leaf shape (see: "Como - San Fedele"). Santa Maria del Tiglio was erected on the same design, it is as well a "triconchos". S. Maria del Tiglio is small, here is the wooden ceiling of the "nave".

Seen from the eastern side of the Lake Como are the churches S. Vincenzo and S. Maria del Tiglio in Gravedonna. These two neighbouring buildings probably mark a place that was known as "sacred ground" already on pre-Christian times. Excavations proved, that a baptistery existed, where Maria del Tiglio is now already within the 5th or 6th century.
