The buildings seen here once served as a "hospital" for the pilgrims, traveling the via regina along the Lake Como. The church dates back to the 11th century, the top of the campanile was added later. Just a stone throw away is the "Isola Comacina", a small island with a long history, having been a safe place for refugees since the migration period. Some scholars claim, that the "Magistri Comacini", the group of medieval architects and artists, have their roots here.
