Toury - La Gare

22 Mar 2015 208
I just had learned, that it took daredevil aviator Louis Blériot 37 minutes to cross the English Channel covering 35km in 1909 (see previous upload) . Standing on a bridge, I watched the roaring train speeding to north. In less than an hour all passengers will be in the center of Paris.

Toury is not only known for an Merovingian settlement or the nice parish church, dedicated to Saint-Denis. Toury is worldwide known as an important place in the life of famous French aviator Louis Blériot. After Blériot managed two flights of over 500 metres, including a successful U-turn in December 1906, he succeeded in making a cross-country flight from Toury to Artenay and back, a total distance of 28 km on 31 October 1908. On 25 July 1909 Louis Blériot was the first to cross the English Channel by plane, winning a prize of £1,000 offered by the Daily Mail newspaper.
