I had perfect spring weather, when I continued that morning. The Roman road run straight south. In a couple of hours I would reach Poitiers.

The castle was built in the late 15th for Pierre d'Amboise, bishop of Poitiers. It then served as a residence for all succeeding bishops of Poitiers up to the French Revolution. It got altered during the 18th and completely restored and rebuilt in the early 20th century - and now looks perfect.
